ScienceOpen is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to showcase the new interdisciplinary journal, AWWA Water Science (AWS), which publishes original, peer-reviewed research on the science, engineering, and social aspects of water. Thanks to ScienceOpen’s unique infrastructure, authors who publish their research in AWS will have enhanced discoverability as well as access to a suite of features, such as community curation, article reviews, comments, and recommendations, all of which benefit the whole scientific community by facilitating public engagement with scholarly research.

“Including AWS articles on the ScienceOpen platform is another way that AWWA is working to help researchers find the information they need when they need it,” says Kimberly Retzlaff, Sr. Editorial Manager at AWWA. “The ScienceOpen platform is a hub where researchers come together to share scientific information. For water researchers, they can share and discuss the science that helps promote water safety and public health.”

AWS features research exploring theoretical, experimental, and practical approaches that advance fundamental understanding and application of all aspects of water works and any source water that could conceivably become a potable water supply. Furthermore, AWS serves as an international forum for knowledge exchange and innovation, and will be in the right company on ScienceOpen, which is already home to thousands of articles on topics including climate science and renewable energy.

Expert members can further interact with AWWA content by writing an article view, sharing and recommending relevant articles, or incorporating links into their own researcher-led Collections in order to provide additional points of view or expand and elaborate on specific topics. A benefit of this feature is that integrating research into Collections contextualizes it—once a publication is indexed on ScienceOpen, it becomes linked to a network of related articles and Collections. It is a great way to facilitate academic debate, as well as promote one’s own research.

Founded in 1881, AWWA is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world, offering total water solutions that help ensure the effective management of water. The collaboration with ScienceOpen supplements AWWA’s existing partnership with John Wiley & Sons Inc., both of which help to fulfill the advancement and discoverability of water science.

Authors interested in impacting public health should consider publishing in AWWA Water Science. Learn more about ScienceOpen Collections here or contact Stephanie Dawson to apply for Editor status.
