Celebrating SDGs at Frankfurt Book Fair

Celebrating SDGs at Frankfurt Book Fair

The SDGs aim to promote economic growth and development, and academic and publishing communities are increasingly coming together to support and promote these ambitious goals. For a long time, ScienceOpen has been assisting various publishers with their publishing projects centered on the SDGs and topics of sustainability.

In the last year alone, we have expanded our collaboration with important multidisciplinary publishers like Hogrefe and EDP Sciences, focusing on showcasing their innovation and research results that support the acceleration towards the SDGs in collections tailored to individual goals or relevant topics.

The SDG publishers compact and its associated programs are also bringing us together, and we will be delighted to showcase our innovation and implementations supporting the Agenda 2030 goals at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

What is the SDG publishers compact?

Launched in collaboration with the International Publishers Association, the Compact is designed to inspire action and aims to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Signatories aspire to develop sustainable practices and act as champions of the SDGs, publishing books and journals that will help inform, develop, and inspire action in that direction.

The SDG Publishers Compact outlines ten commitments, including promoting and reporting on progress related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), coordinating efforts within organizations, and collaborating with other signatories and organizations to advance SDG-related projects. Publishers are encouraged to allocate resources and take action on at least one SDG goal, sharing their progress annually.

ScienceOpen is a proud member of the SDG Publishers Compact and is inviting all interesting publishers to check out the full commitment and join the compact and its associated programs, like the SDG Publishers Compact Fellows. More details can be found here.

Sustainability at Frankfurt Book Fair

The SDG Publishers Compact community currently has over 300 members worldwide, and many of them will be celebrating this milestone at Frankfurt Book Fair, happening this week from October 18th to 22nd.

Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s largest trade fair for books and one of the most important stages for current debates on international and socio-political events. In 2022, FBF hosted over 4000 exhibitors from 95 countries.

At the fair, topics of sustainability in book publishing will be widely discussed in the Sustainability Summit, happening on Wednesday, October 18th at 13:00, as well as in the events happening in the SDG Media Zone and around the stands of our publishers who have signed the SDG Publishers Compact.
