Quarterly Digest: January-March 2024

As we wrap up the first quarter of 2024, we’re eager to share the latest updates within the ScienceOpen network, along with other ongoing projects our team has been involved in.

New collections on ScienceOpen

We started off 2024 by announcing that two journals, previously indexed on ScienceOpen, will now be fully hosted on the platform.

BIO Integration is a platinum open access journal focusing on original, cutting-edge, interdisciplinary contents in the field of biosciences, including medicine, biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, and biotechnology. Since early this year, BIO Integration is hosted on ScienceOpen, taking advantage of our platform’s interactive discovery interface, CrossRef registration and ORCID integration, and easy manuscript submission.

The Review of African Political Economy (ROAPE) is a scholarly journal that critically examines political, economic, and social issues across the African continent. Previously hosted by Taylor & Francis, ROAPE recently made the move to full Open Access, and is now hosted and published on the ScienceOpen platform (read here).

We also established new partnerships with leading journals, publishers and university presses.

The Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science (JAPS) is a monthly open-access peer-reviewed journal focusing on pharmaceutical sciences, welcoming original research and reviews in areas like medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, drug design, and nanotechnology/nanomedicine.

Qatar University Press joined the ScienceOpen network with five new journal collections: The International Review of Law, Journal of College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Tajseer Journal, the Journal of Educational Science, and Ansaq Journal. All article records from Qatar University Press are equipped with bilingual metadata in Arabic and English (including titles, abstracts, author summaries and keywords) for optimal searchability and discoverability. Bentham Science is a publisher providing academic researchers and industrial professionals with the latest information in fields including pharmaceutical research and development, medical subspecialties, engineering, technology, and social sciences. The new Bentham Science – Open Access collection on ScienceOpen (read more here) showcases Bentham’s foremost open access scholarship across many research disciplines.

Last but definitely not least, this quarter also saw new additions from long-standing and already established customers customers.

As a mission-driven academic publisher, Emerald has previously created curated collections of scholarly work based around the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Fairer Society, Healthier Lives, Quality Education for All, and Responsible Management. Most recently, they added another topical collection around the SDGs: Sustainable Structures and Infrastructures.  Emerald continues to champion the UN SDGs in their Organisation and Publishing strategies and we are proud to be able to showcase their content this way on our platform.

Furthermore, the Association for European University Presses (AEUP) catalogue collection on ScienceOpen recently expanded to include books and book chapters from more of its members, including University of Groningen Press, Innsbruck University Press, and Central European University Press. Browse some of these newest additions here and read more about AEUP in our previous blog post.

Events

In the last quarter, the ScienceOpen team had the pleasure of attending several key events in the world of scholarly publishing.

On January 9th, ScienceOpen CEO Stephanie Dawson moderated a panel discussion on the role of the SDGs within the publishing industry as part of the Academic Publishing in Europe (APE) Conference at ESMT Berlin.

On 12-14 March, Stephanie and Global Business Development Director Stuart Cooper attended the London Book Fair, one of the largest events in publishing that brings together publishers and dealmakers, copyright experts, and other professionals from the print, audio, TV, film, and digital publishing landscapes.

As a member of the EU-funded REPO4EU consortium, Stephanie also attended the Steering Committee event of the project in Vienna (March 19-21). Read this blog post to find out more about Drug Repurposing Central, a publishing platform funded and managed by REPO4EU using technology from ScienceOpen.
