The Sustainable History Monograph Pilot is an open access pilot aiming to push academic book publishing to the open model. Recently ScienceOpen has made several important additions to our services around books and book chapters on ScienceOpen. We announced new book hosting services for two publishers—African Minds and Carl Grossmann Verlag. Additionally, we have indexed several publishers’ book collections onto the platform, providing extensive technical support which led to the creation of an interface for producing and enhancing book metadata. These customers includeUUM Press, Huddersfield Uuniversity Press,University of Westminster Press, and Trivent among others.
ScienceOpen has partnered with the not-for-profit, open access publisher, African Minds, to host its scholarly books in a unique Collection on ScienceOpen. While ScienceOpen has been hosting open access journal content for years, it is the first time ScienceOpen has hosted open access book content. With the implementation for African Minds, we kick off a new service for open access publishers. The technical team of ScienceOpen has built a user-friendly interface that produces streamlined, machine readable metadata to quickly integrate rich book records onto ScienceOpen, provide Crossref DOIs, long-term archiving and more. Our partners at African Minds have tested and implemented the new interface to create a collection of books and book chapters that will extend the reach and accessibility of science from Africa.
An introduction to the Trivent Medieval Collection
Adding to the diverse humanities and social science content on ScienceOpen, our most recent project with Trivent Publishing is now available! Together, we have launched a featured collection that showcases the books from Trivent Medieval. Trivent Medieval is a growing imprint, currently holding ten book series on varied historical subjects: art history, magic and witchcraft, Mediterranean studies, equestrian history, Byzantine history, the history of the Carolingian Empire, as well as gender, and medievalism. We are very excited to support this excellent collection of medieval history research by Trivent Publishers. The integration of the Trivent Medieval Collection into the ScienceOpen discovery platform further expands our reach beyond the natural sciences and will increase the dissemination of Trivent books.

ScienceOpen is excited to announce that it now includes books and book chapters to give users a richer discovery experience and to support academic publishers with book sales. Embedded within an interactive environment of nearly 60 million article records, this new feature highlights books and chapters within search results and ScienceOpen’s unique Collections infrastructure. Researchers can now add book publications to their profiles and include books and chapters in their ScienceOpen Collections. Publishers will be able to promote and sell their open access and copyrighted works within a broad, interdisciplinary research context.
