Success Stories of 2022 –African Minds

Since 2020, ScienceOpen and African Minds have been collaborating in the promotion and dissemination of African Minds’ scholarship, and we are pleased to have developed a user-friendly interface that generates streamlined, machine-readable metadata and quickly integrates rich book records onto ScienceOpen. During 2022, the number of books on the collection of African Minds doubled, generating over 19.000 item requests from users in 120 countries around the world.

ScienceOpen worked closely with Peter Lang Group to present a glimpse into the publisher’s editorial program and rich content in a featured collection, with titles available in both English and Spanish. These new book titles will be adding valuable insights not only to our book network but also to our multilingual content, thus making research more accessible for the diverse audiences that use ScienceOpen in their line of academic engagement.

About the open access Sustainable History Monograph Pilot

ScienceOpen has partnered with Longleaf Services to provide metadata and promotional services for its Mellon-funded initiative, the Sustainable History Monograph Pilot (SHMP).

The Sustainable History Monograph Pilot is an open access pilot aiming to push academic book publishing to the open model. Longleaf Services works with university presses to publish open digital editions of high-quality books in the field of history. ScienceOpen has indexed the publications from this initiative in the Sustainable History Monograph Pilot featured collection to help spread awareness of the SHMP. Welcoming the University of Maribor Press!

A New Partnership 

We are excited to announce our new partnership with the University of Maribor Press (UMP) to provide them with promotional and technical services for their publications. We have begun by indexing two of its prestigious Law Journals—Lexonomica: Journal of Law and Economics and Medicine, Law and Societyand the University of Maribor Press Books in featured collections. Additionally, we have set up a University of Maribor Press Super Collection. These collections place UMP’s publications within the ever-growing ScienceOpen database of over 70 million academic records. We have also planned that ScienceOpen will provide substantial technical services to UMP, such as book DOI deposit to Crossref, metadata enhancement, and reporting new content from the journals to Dimensions, DOAJ, and Crossref.

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Press has strategically partnered with ScienceOpen to enrich its metadata and feature its publications on ScienceOpen’s interactive search and discovery platform. This is a special announcement because not only do we have a lot of new content to share with you, but we also get to highlight the success of our technical team, who worked diligently to help UUM Press streamline and enrich their publications’ metadata. Now, the addition of seven UUM Press open access journals (plus one forthcoming) and approximately 400 other titles with rich metadata are available for discovery in eight different featured collections and an encompassing Super Collection on ScienceOpen.
